Born 1952 in Chicago Zach began playing music at the age of 13. Two years later he was already recording with Curtis Mayfield's Label Curtom Records.

He then worked and performed all over the world with legends like Cash McCall, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Willie Dixon, Etta James, Luther Allison to name a few.
